TIE fighter (TIE is an acronym for Twin Ion Engine) is a space fighter from the Star Wars universe that first appeared on the cinema screen in the 1977 movie "Star Wars" (Episode IV) and later appeared in many more parts of the space saga. At the time of entry into service, machines of this type were characterized by low construction costs and a very simple structure. For example, they did not have any force shields, and their pilots had to take special oxygen containers with them. At the same time, however, the TIE Fighter had a clear advantage in terms of maneuverability and speed over enemy fighters - especially over the Y-Wing or Z-95. However, it did not match the performance of the machine popularly known as the X-Wing, the Incom T-65 machine. It was also much less durable, which caused significant losses among the pilots flying it.
The X-wing (also known as Incom T-65) is a space fighter from the Star Wars universe that fights in the ranks of the Rebellion. He first appeared on the screen in the movie "Star Wars: A New Hope" (I or IV part of the saga). Standard armament consists of four laser cannons on the wingtips and two proton torpedo launchers. The length of the vehicle is 12.5 meters. The drive is provided by four ion motors. The X-Wing also has maneuvering and stabilizing engines.
The X-wing was designed and largely produced at Incom as a far-reaching development of the Z-95 fighters. It is worth noting that pilots of this type of fighters could almost always count on the help of the R2 and R4 astromechanical droids in combat missions. Fighters of this type formed the backbone of the Rebel forces during the Battle of Yavin (year O BBY), and it was this type of fighter that Luke Skywalker piloted during the attack on the Death Star during the battle. The X-Wing fighters also performed very well during the Battle of Endor (Year 4 ABY).
