Samoloty te zmodyfikowano dla mozliwosci uzycia rosyjskich bomb naprowadzanych laserem, i antyradarowych pociskow rakietowych. Ponadto samoloty JH-7 wyposazono w nowe radary dopplera i system fly-by-wire, a w kabinie zamontowano jeden szeroki ekran MDS. Chiny prawdopodobnie zaprzestana produkcji samolotow tego typu na kozysc wydajniejszych modeli: Shenyang J-11 i Chengdu J-10.
The Chinese Xian JH-7 (NATO code: Flounder) is a two-seater and twin-engine fighter bomber, modeled on the overall concept of the SEPECAT Jaguar. Design work began in 1977, but the flight of the prototype did not take place until December 1988, and entry into the linear units took place in 1992.
